UK, Cornwall, M, 25-34

Throughout my design studies, within the past decade, I have been accompanied by a cohort consisting almost entirely of female students. I cannot speak for the transition into the professional workforce.

However, I think what we may see here is a slow change in which female students are increasingly encouraged to pursue creative careers in more recent years, which may have not been the case 20 years ago. Thus, the workforce is still predominantly male (but ‘ageing’). Hence, the statistics may reflect a certain inequality at this point in time (and I’m sure there would be many other reasons to support inequality in various regards), but perhaps it also speaks to the changes the industry is currently undergoing.
