UK, Cornwall, Male, 35-44

My background is games/film special effects and now trans-disciplinary and R&D focus. The gender division and minority representation I saw in my (quite applied) education was fairly good, looking back I think my course was fairly forward thinking for the time. This definitely changed entering work—some of my female course mates followed a similar route, but others had to work harder (going into post graduate studies only to enter at a similar level). This harmed the culture of the larger organisations I worked for (in the film industry). This was identified and tackled at one point with some “creative HR” solutions (which were very successful)—quietly applying a rule to only hire female staff for 6 months turned our team into a much more professional setup in a myriad of ways. Switching back to normal hiring situation, the people wanting to work with us afterwards were much more balanced and the effect was permanent.
