UK, Female, 24 and under

Being a female designer in the design industry has given me more drive to prove myself.

Since I began my gender equality platform, I have spoken to a wide-range of women from multiple disciplines and across all age groups. The general pattern seems to show that experiences of gender inequality are becoming more recognised, especially amongst male peers. However, there are still instances of inequality that happen today, most notably with female interns.

I have heard stories of female interns being belittled and treated poorly in comparison to permanent designers and, at times, their male intern colleagues. Consequently, this sets the catalyst for a lack of confidence amongst female designers.

My experience in the design industry so far has been a good and nurturing one, but I do believe this varies from person to person, and from studio to studio.
