UK, Female, 25-34

I think I’m a bit of an odd case as I wasn’t a design student and got into digital design through software development (which has significant issues with gender parity in the pipeline and hiring stages). Generally I have never directly experienced any issues related to my gender but then I am a bit of an oddity in general, being single and without kids and no dependents, so a lot of the fallout from structural sexism and misogyny doesn’t quite impact me. I’ve experienced more issued related to race than gender to be honest.

However, I know from female colleagues who have kids that it’s really difficult working one’s way through senior levels because of the lack of flexibility. Long hours combined with difficulties organising equal sharing of housework/childcare can be an issue too.
