UK, Female, 25-34

Since graduating, I’ve completed several internships and have consistently found myself having to work under male designers in senior roles. This is also the case in my current full time job. When I started there were 15 male designers to 1 female. Once I completed my internship and was offered a full time junior role I gained the confidence to speak up about how this gender imbalance made me feel uncomfortable. It’s taken 5 reviews (where I’ve broached the subject) over the course of 4 years for them to amend the balance of genders within the design team to 50/50. Despite this, the recently employed female designers have taken up internship, junior, and mid-weight positions, meanwhile the 50% of male roles are disappointingly still all senior.
